Well another pride has come and gone. Hope you had a chance to come down to the Bears of Toronto Pride booth over the weekend and see what we have planned for the rest of the year. A big thanks goes out to John Bond and Wayne Holmes, for organizing the Pride booth and for manning it for the two days. As well, we’d like to thank all our volunteers, Conrad, Derrick, Stephen, Javier, Darren, John F, Itzik, Jim, Gerry, and Eric who helped handout flyers for Bear Season our bear run in October, answer questions about the club, etc. Also, we need to thank Bob Dodd and his partner Di Tao for donating refreshments for the volunteers, and for the guys at Bear Wear International, Ron and Dan. A special thanks goes to our partners who donated prizes for our volunteers, such as Jack Astors Bar & Grill, Fionn McCool’s, and Churchmouse & Firkin. A second thanks goes out to Wayne Holmes, Mr Bears of Toronto 2009, for representing the group at the booth.

This year, our friends from Bears By Nature marched in the parade along with BearForest.com and members of Bears of Toronto. We would like to thank Tino, Don and Chris and our very own Mr. Bears of Toronto 2010 Warren Kennedy, for putting that all together. Thank to Ken Shaw Lexus Toyota for donating the truck that was used in the parade. As this was the 30th Pride Parade, they organized the making of a quilt commemorating the 30 years of Beardom in this city. This year’s motto was “Together We Are Stronger.” Groups and institutions featured in the quilt were Bears of Toronto, GenXBears, Bear Buddies, Bears By Nature, and the Toolbox.

Just wanted to remind you about two events that will and will not be happening. As well, we are still looking for volunteers to help out at our Pride booth.

Bear Café

First of all, this coming Sunday, June 27^th, the Bears of Toronto will be holding their monthly Bear Café at The Croissant Tree, even with the G20 taking place. So if you can get to the venue, please come out and support this popular event.  This month, it will be hosted by our friends Javier and Cory.

Games Night

The Bears of Toronto Steering Committee has decided that the weekly Games Night will be taking a short vacation, but will back on August 4^th. But if you still feel like going down to the Fox & Fiddle and seeing who is there, grabbing a beer or some grub and taking advantage of the discount that members have, please feel free to do so.

Pride Booth

We are still looking for some volunteers for our Pride booth. This year, we will be located close to where we were last year on Church St just north of Gloucester.   Come join us and help out the group. If you are available, please email us your name, time and day. The times are:

Just wanted to announce our upcoming bear run entitled Bear Season.

After a few years of hibernation, the Bears of Toronto are up and ready to hold their second Bear Run –  Bear Season. Pencil in October 8, 9, 10 & 11, 2010 in your calendars.  Many of our members have been to Bear Runs all over North America and Europe.  Collectively as a group, we have decided to host another Official Toronto Bear Run.

While it has been a few years missing from the Toronto Bear Scene, the Bears of Toronto will attempt to bring to you, the “best of the best of all the runs.”

If we take one small detail from each run and bring them to Toronto, you have… “BEAR SEASON,”so you can now go to www.bearseason.org and register for four days of fun.

A great evening!

Just to comment, we had a very good turnout at the Mr. Bears of Toronto 2010 contest at the Black Eagle last night. There were long line up to get in as well as to get upstairs. Thanks to those who traveled from outside of GTA to be present at the contest.

We, the Bears of Toronto Steering Committee, would like to formally announce the winner of the contest is Warren Kennedy. To see and find out more about him, please check the Bears of Toronto website soon. Also, we want to take this opportunity to say thanks to all those who made this event a success. A special thanks goes out to our co-host, Tino DiMarco of BearForest.com; all the staff at the Black Eagle, especially Carlos, who ordered that wonderful cake to celebrate the group’s 4th anniversary; to our emcee Guido Giovinazzo from the Steelcity Bears; our  three judges, Wayne Holmes, our outgoing Mr. Bears of Toronto 2009; Justin Eden from Stag Shop, and Steve Karges from Black Eagle. Pictures of the contest will be on the website shortly, thanks to our photographer, John Feldman. Thanks also goes out to the other contestants, Cameron, Kris, and Darren.
